I'm interested in culture and inequality. This means I ask questions about things like:

• who gets to work in, and stay in, cultural jobs

• who's on the boards of directors of cultural organisations, and how they're connected 

• who's in the audience for different kinds of cultural events

• what's the role of higher education in mitigating, or compounding, these inequalities

I mostly answer these questions using quantitative methods (maths, counting), and I mostly work in teams where people use different approaches. I also mostly work with people who are based in or around the cultural sector.

I'm based at the University of Sheffield, where I've been since 2014. I spend about half my time working as Research Partner for the Creative Industries Policy & Evidence Centre.
